Northeastern launches regulatory science degree program

By Mass High Tech staff

Northeastern University reports it has created a master’s program in regulatory sciences.

The program will cover the scientific and technological basis for production, regulatory approval, and subsequent monitoring of biopharmaceutical substances, according to the school. Northeastern noted in a press release the difference between regulatory science and regulatory affairs, which focuses on development and enforcement of regulations through administrative protocols.

Applicants to the program must have a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, chemical or biochemical engineering, pharmaceutical science, or a related discipline.

The program will be the first master’s degree in regulatory science in the United States, according to Northeastern. The school said the program will offer a laboratory component and co-op opportunities.

The school’s trustees approved the addition in November 2009.
