38 Studios appoints new chief financial and marketing officers
By Mass High Tech staff
Maynard video game development firm 38 Studios LLC has named two new executives to its leadership team in new chief financial officer Rick Wester and new chief marketing officer Denise Kaigler. Both executives took their positions in February, according to a press release today.
Wester joins 38 Studios having previously amassed 18 years of startup experience, mainly in software and IT services fields. Reporting to 38 Studios chief operating officer Bill Thomas, Wester will be responsible for handling the company’s internal and external financial affairs.
Kaigler joins the company having previously held the vice president of corporate affairs responsibility for Nintendo of America, where she oversaw corporate communications, internal communication, government relations, public relations and entertainment and trend marketing. As chief marketing officer reporting to CEO Jen MacLean, Kaigler will direct 38 Studios’ marketing, including public relations, internal and external communications, market research, product strategy and branding and positioning of products.
Founded in 2006 by retired Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, 38 Studios replaced its former president and CEO Brett Close in August with MacLean, a former manager in the games division at Comcast.
Schilling, who named the company after his former jersey number with the Red Sox, has invested over $5 million in the company and has sought outside venture capital investment without success, according to a report published earlier in 2009 by the Boston Globe.
38 Studios aims to release its game this year, based on intellectual property developed by fantasy novelist and Leominster resident R.A. Salvatore and Canadian comic book artist Todd McFarlane.
