Desktone gets $5.4M in new funding round

Desktone Inc., a Chelmsford developer of hosted virtual desktop environments, has taken in $5.4 million of a planned $12.16 million financing round, according to federal documents.
While the documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission didn’t list the investors, Desktone has been backed previously by Highland Capital Partners, SoftBank Capital, Citrix Systems and China-based Tangee International. Listed in the filing as a director is Peter Bell of Highland Capital, Ron Fisher of SoftBank and Jose Carreiro, formerly with Citrix Systems.
Desktone has developed virtual, hosted desktop environments for the enterprise, which it calls Desktop as a Service (DaaS). The company counts as its partner California-based NetApp, Japan’s Marubeni Corp. and European cloud services companies CloudGroup BV and SCC, among others.
In July of 2007, Desktone, closed a a $17 million Series A round of funding.
Desktone was founded in 2006 by Eric Pulier, who also founded Los Angeles-based SOA Software Inc. and Cupertino, Calif.-based US Interactive Inc.
