MIT's clean energy competition partners with West Coast contest
By Brendan Lynch
The MIT Enterprise Forum reports its Ignite Clean Energy Competition is partnering with the Cleantech Open, a San Francisco-based business plan competition.
The competition has been renamed ICE/Cleantech Open Northeast, and will serve as a regional Cleantech Open competition in Boston, while continuing to operate as an independent organization. New England startups winning the regional competition will move on to the national Cleantech Open finals in San Francisco in November. The Cleantech Open also operates regional competitions in Silicon Valley, Seattle, Denver and Minneapolis.
The 5-year old ICE will continue to be be run out of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge, according to the organizations. The partnership was planned as a way to keep up with supplying resources to the participants as the contest grew, according to ICE. Historically, ICE contestants compete for up to $200,000 in cash and in-kind services, and they receive mentoring services from veteran entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and other business officials.
