CombinatoRx Inc. founder and former CEO Alexis Borisy, who joined Third Rock Ventures as entrepreneur-in-residence in October, is heading up a new personalized medicine company known as Foundation Medicine, according to published reports.
Borisy led Cambridge-based CombinatoRx, which develops drug candidates for pain and inflammation, for almost 10 years before leaving in July. He joined Boston-based life sciences venture capital firm Third Rock in October. Third Rock has invested in companies including Afferent Pharmaceuticals Inc., Agios, Alnara Pharmaceuticals Inc., Constellation Pharmaeuticals Inc., DC Devices, Edimer Pharmaceuticals, Eleven Biotherapeutics, Ninepoint Medical, Seventh Sense Biosystems and Zafgen Inc.
Borisy told Xconomy that as entrepreneur-in-residence he works with other Third Rock team members to assess where the company should invest, but he offered few details about Foundation Medicine.
