Olympics to use Billerica firm’s medical device

Belmont Instrument Corp. has announced that the Olympic Organizing Committee asked the company to install  its blood infusion product at the mobile hospital that will treat Olympic athletes at the Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada.

The so-called Belmont Rapid Infuser has previously been used by the U.S. Army for treating soldiers with blood loss in Iraq and Afghanistan. The device is also used in hospitals and medical centers.

Belmont Instrument Corp., a Billerica-based company, was founded in 1980 and develops critical care devices.
