Pixily relocates, plans name change
By Jill Gambon, Special to Mass High Tech
Pixily, a document scanning and management startup, has completed a move to new headquarters in Cambridge this week, at the same time it is preparing to launch a new company name.
Previously based in Waltham, the company signed a two-year lease at 180 Fawcett St. in the Fresh Pond area of Cambridge. With 4,000 square feet, the new quarters should provide the company plenty of room to grow, said Healy Jones, vice president of marketing for the firm.
The new address accompanies Pixily’s preparation to unveil its new name, OfficeDrop. Research showed that customers had a hard time recalling the name Pixily, that it was often misspelled and it was sometimes confused with video or digital imaging companies, Jones said. “It’s frustrating. People are always introducing me as working for the wrong company,” he said. The company came up with a list of about 20 possible names and then surveyed 367 customers for feedback. Reaction to the handle OfficeDrop was positive, Jones said.
Launched in 2007, Pixily scans its customers’ paper documents and then provides cloud-based storage for them. Its clients are mostly small businesses and home office workers. While the company’s location and name are changing, services and pricing remain the same, Jones said.
The company currently employs nine people. The new space is more than the company needs right now, so Pixily is planning to sublease a few offices to startups or other emerging companies.
