PTC buys Planet Metrics

By Brendan Lynch

Parametric Technology Corp. reports it has acquired environmental analysis technology company Planet Metrics Inc.

PTC said it acquired the San Bruno, Calif.-based Planet Metrics as a way to expand its Insight Product Analytics software platform. Planet Metrics’ technology adds carbon analysis and other environmental analytics to PTC’s line of product analytics software products. The software is designed to allow manufacturing companies to model, analyze and optimize carbon emissions and energy use. The software includes a database of environmental profiles and combines analytics and graphic “heat map” displays.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Last summer, PTC bought bought Relex Software Corp., a Pennsylvania developer of design and field data analysis software and services.

Needham-based PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), founded in 1985, develops computer-aided design software.
