Life sciences
Cambridge-based Outcome Sciences Inc. has appointed Leanne R. Larson as vice president, strategic development. Before joining Outcome, Larson served as vice president at Sg2 Healthcare Intelligence, where she led the Cancer Intelligence Program. Prior to Sg2, she worked for more than 14 years at ICON Lifecycle Sciences Group. Larson has also held positions in Ernst & Young’s Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals consulting practice, as well as Merck and Co.’s Health Sciences-Digestive Disease group.
Concert Pharmaceuticals Inc. has named Lijun Wu as vice president, biology. In this newly created position, Wu will have responsibility for Concert’s non-clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, and bioanalytical functions and will report to Roger Tung, president and CEO of Lexington-based Concert. Prior to joining Concert, Wu was vice president, discovery research at Resolvyx Pharmaceutical. Before that she was the executive director of atherosclerosis in cardiovascular research at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research. She also held management positions at Millennium Pharmaceuticals and various positions at LeukoSite Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Millennium). In 2005, Wu was named one of Mass High Tech’s Women to Watch.
T2 Biosystems Inc. of Cambridge has appointed Ken Toso as vice president, product development, a new position for the company. Most recently, Toso served as senior vice president of engineering at Grove Instruments and as vice president of research and development for the Oncology division of Boston Scientific where he directed the launch of eight new products in one year’s time. Prior to Boston Scientific, Toso served as vice president of R&D for ACMI Circon. Toso also served as vice president of Engineering at Xylum and started his career at US Surgical.
Services
Billerica-based event company MassAV has added Peter Gentile as an account executive. Gentile previously served in account service positions at Ajilon Financial, CDI Inc. and most recently as vice president – account services at Cramer. His event production experience includes the technology, health care, consumer products and financial services industries.
Talent Hog, a national talent sourcing company based out of Dallas, has named Jim Della Volpe as regional developer and director of training and coaching for Talent Hog’s new Boston-based operations. Della Volpe’s background includes executive associate at IIB, eastern region director at Integrated Partnerships Inc. and eastern regional director at Direct Fit.
Boston-based RF Walsh Collaborative Partners has added Ted Nevells to the project management firm as a senior project manager. Prior to joining RF Walsh Collaborative Partners, Nevells worked as a member of development teams on major projects throughout New England, including projects for Roger Williams University, Harvard University, Simmons College, MIT, Boston Scientific Corp., AstraZeneca, Holyoke Hospital, and Shriners Burns Hospital.
Concord-based intellectual property law firm Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds has promoted Ivana Adamovic and Emily A. Dertz to roles as patent agents. Adamovic assists the firm in patent preparation and prosecution in the areas of chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and clean energy. She earned a diploma degree in physical chemistry from the University of Belgrade (Serbia), and her Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Iowa State University. Dertz assists the firm in patent preparation and prosecution in the areas of biotechnology, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals. Dertz earned a B.S. in chemistry, with distinction, from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California Berkeley.
Hardware
Hittite Microwave Corp. has promoted Everett N. Cole III to vice president of hybrid manufacturing, William D. Hannabach to vice president of global operations and Dong Hyun (Thomas) Hwang to vice president of sales. Cole was previously director of quality and Hannabach was previously director of operations, while Hwang was previously director of sales. Norman Hildreth and Michael Olson will remain vice presidents and manage the Chelmsford company’s product engineering design and development centers. Brian Jablonski will remain vice president, operations.
Education
Michael J. Bourque, associate vice president for information technology, applications and systems at Boston College, has been named vice president, information technology. He succeeds Marian G. Moore, who announced her retirement in the fall. Bourque brings 25 years of experience in higher education and industry to the position, including seven years at Boston College, the last five as associate vice president. Prior to joining BC’s ITS team as executive director of information technology in 2003, Bourque served as vice president of business systems at Parametric Technology Corp. in Needham. He also worked at Raytheon Co. in Lexington from 1984 to 1999.
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), a nonprofit organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology, has named Roseann Stevens as vice president of field operations. Stevens will report directly to Paul R. Gudonis, president of FIRST. She has more than 25 years of sales experience in the automotive industry, having worked for suppliers such as Lear, Visteon and Metaldyne. She became the first female vice president at Lear. Stevens began her career as an executive assistant with Ford.
Energy
American Superconductor Corp. promoted Daniel McGahn to president and chief operating officer of the energy generation technology manufacturer. In his new role, McGahn will run day-to-day operations for the Devens company and report to founder and CEO Greg Yurek. McGahn previously was senior vice president and general manager of AMSC’s superconductors division. He also led the establishment of AMSC’s China subsidiary and growth in sales of wind turbine designs and electrical components to energy companies in the Asian nation. Taking over for McGahn in the superconductors division will be Michael Tanner, who joined the company in August from neighboring solar panel maker Evergreen Solar Inc.
Networks
Dexrex Gear, a Newton-based provider of management services for instant message networks and mobile text messages, has formed a six-member board of advisors. Technology advisor Eric Burger is a member of the SIP Forum board of directors and senior vice president and CTO of NeuStar Inc. Also a technology advisor, Jeff Peden founded Newbury Networks in 2001. Compliance advisor Margaret Sperry was senior vice president and chief compliance officer for the MassMutual Financial Group from 2000 until her retirement in July 2008. Sustainability advisor Andrew Stern is founder and vice president of the grass-roots clean energy group Citizen Advocates for Renewable Energy (CARE), holds a position as associate and clean energy expert at Maxis Capital, and is president of New England Windpower Inc. Operations and finance advisor Richard K. Post has held a series of senior management roles with Microsoft Corp. Marketing advisor Kwong Chan is a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he develops methods that link customers to new technologies.
