Pervasis cleared to begin Phase 3 drug trial

By Julie M. Donnelly

Pervasis Therapeutics Inc. said Tuesday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared the way for the Cambridge-based company to begin its Phase 3 trial of its drug candidate to treat symptoms linked to end-stage renal disease.

The drug target, called Vascugel, will be tested in approximately 390 patients with end-stage renal disease. Pervasis plans to start the drug trial this year, and, if the results are positive, to submit the drug for market approval.

Pervasis recently published positive trial results for Vascugel in the December issue of the Journal of Vascular Surgery.

Pervasis develops technologies to identify drug targets for vascular diseases, inflammatory diseases and orthopedic diseases.

Pervasis is a privately held company with funding from Flagship Ventures, Polaris Venture Partners, Highland Capital Partners and the Richter Family Fund. The company raised $10 million in September as part of a third round of funding.
