URI granted funds to create biomedical engineering lab
By Mass High Tech staff
The University of Rhode Island has been awarded $116,840 from The Champlin Foundations to put toward establishing a new biomedical engineering design laboratory for students.
The Biomedical Engineering Capstone Design Laboratory is intended to prepare senior biomedical engineering students for laboratory work in the fields of cardiovascular mechanics, biomedical controls, biomeasurements and neuroengineering.
The labs will offer advanced modeling software, eight workstations for prototyping electronic and embedded devices and eight workstations for hardware testing and software development. Equipment such as a materials testing machine, motion tracking systems and a biosignal real-time processor and controller are also included.
The grant is part of a larger $464,000 award from The Champlin Foundations.
