Mass. to invest $6M in ARRA funds to green jobs
By Mass High Tech staff
Governor Deval Patrick announced today he plans to move $6 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to green jobs training and support. The funding is part of the governor’s Massachusetts Recovery Plan.
The funding comes through a U.S. Department of Labor grant, of which 34 were awarded across the country.
Gov. Patrick said in a statement that the funding will be used to train people in the fields of energy efficient building construction and retrofit, biofuels, renewable electric power, sustainable manufacturing, environmental protection and green construction. The 1,400 green job trainees will include unemployed, underemployed and currently employed workers.
The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs organized the Massachusetts Energy Sector Partnership to develop a strategy for identifying cleantech and renewable energy industry needs for workers with less than three years of training.
The State Energy Training Partnership grants are part of the $500 million national Recovery Act initiative.
