Optics 1 gets $38M deal for night-vision goggles

Optics 1 Inc. has brought in $37.8 million from the U.S. Navy for thermal imaging systems to be used on night-vision goggles, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Under the deal, the Manchester, N.H.-based optics technology maker will provide the Navy with a maximum of 6,600 of the its Clip-on Thermal Imager systems, which fit onto the AN/PVS-15A night vision goggle. Optics 1 will also provide repairs, spares and associated data, according to the Department of Defense.

The systems provide a thermal image either to the right or left side of the goggle view.

Work on the contract will be performed in Manchester and is expected to be completed by January 2015.
