Salient Surgical sews up $15M more in funding

By Mass High Tech staff

New Hampshire medical device firm Salient Surgical Technologies Inc. has landed $15 million in new funding, according to federal documents. The company makes devices to control bleeding during surgeries.

Individual backers were not named in the filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which noted that there were 10 backers in this latest financing. In October of 2008, Salient completed a $17.9 million Series F financing round. That investment came from Piper Jaffray, Medtronic Inc., Arnerich Massena & Associates and RiverVest Venture Partners.

Officials at Salient were unavailable to return calls prior to deadline, according to a company spokesperson.

Salient, which moved into new digs in Portsmouth, N.H., in December of 2008,  said in August of 2008 that it was withdrawing a registration for an initial public offering, originally intended to raise about $86 million. The company then cited market conditions as the reason for the withdrawal. Salient announced its original IPO filing in March of that year, and on the same day that it changed its name from Tissuelink Medical Inc.

Salient was co-founded as TissueLink in 1999 by then-president and CEO M. Jacqueline Eastwood, who was named as a Mass High Tech All Star in 2003.
