Alnylam pulls in milestone pay from Roche
By Mass High Tech staff
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc. has pulled in a milestone payment from its partner, Swiss medical technology giant Roche Holding AG, for the start of its pre-investigational new drug application studies related to an RNAi treatment.
The amount of the milestone payment was not disclosed.
Alnylam signed a non-exclusive licensing deal with Roche in 2007, granting the Swiss company a license to its RNAi technology for developing cancer, respiratory, metabolic and liver disease drugs. The deal, worth up to $1 billion, called for Roche to provide an upfront payment of $288.5 million to Alnylam. It also bought Alnylam’s research facility in Kulmbach, Germany, which has since become Roche Kulmbach, a Roche Center of Excellense for RNA therapeutics.
The most recent part of the deal was formed in November and calls for the two companies to jointly discover RNAi treatments for certain disease targets.
