Echo Nest raises $1.3M in VC funds

By Craig M. Douglas

The Echo Nest Corp., a developer of “music-intelligence” technologies, has raised $1.3 million in venture funding.

The financing round included 14 investors. The company previously raised at least one round of venture capital, led by Commonwealth Capital Ventures in Boston, as well as a handful of unidentified angel investors. That round’s dollar value was not disclosed.

Based in Somerville, The Echo Nest is developing a “musical brain” designed to read and analyze online music postings and related media. According to the company’s website, the technology aims to “understand the latest trends, buzz and fan opinion” concerning the music world.

The technology stems from research at MIT, Columbia University and the University of California, Berkeley.

Commonwealth Capital Ventures’ Elliot Katzman is listed as a company director. The company has less than $1 million in revenue, according to financial filings.
