AS&E receives $40M order for cargo inspection systems

By Jackie Noblett

American Science & Engineering Inc. announced Monday it has received a $39.7 million order for its cargo X-ray inspection systems.

The Billerica-based X-ray inspection device maker (Nasdaq: ASEI) would not disclose the government agency that purchased the devices but did say the systems would be used to screen cargo and vehicles passing through “strategic border crossings.”

The cargo inspection systems range from vans that provide drive-by detection of weapons and other illegal materials to portals that cargo vehicles drive through.

AS&E reported revenue of $218.4 million and net income of $28.4 million for its 2009 fiscal year.
