Goby Technologies Inc. has put its semantic leisure search technology on the websites of CBS Digital’s four Boston-area media properties. The media sites, providing users with a page that lets them search for “things to do near Boston,” went live last week on mix1041.com, wbz.com, wods.com and wzlx.com.
Goby CEO and co-founder Mark Watkins said the startup is sharing ad revenue with the media properties, based on contextual ads and pay-per-click ads that Goby generates, as well as ads generated by the host sites themselves. The Goby sites are found on domains like wbz.goby.com, or via a drop-down link in the homepage top navigation bar, labeled “weekend fun finder.”
Goby, founded by Watkins, a former R&D executive at Endeca Technologies Inc. and serial database entrepreneur Michael Stonebraker, launched its online service in September. Its investors include venture capital firms Flybridge Capital Partners of Boston and Kepha Partners of Waltham.
Goby.com recently logged its 150,000th unique visitor, Watkins said. After its main ‘events’ category, music is the most popular search category on the site, he said. Goby is seeking more web-based partnerships in the music world, he said.
“There are some other partnerships that we have brewing but nothing I’m ready to disclose yet,” Watkins said.
