Connecticut-based biotechnology company Affomix Corp. has entered into a development deal with Canada’s Kalgene Pharmaceuticals Inc. in which Kalgene will use Affomix’s technology to help identify possible diagnostics and therapies for breast cancer.
No financial terms of the deal were released, but Branford-based Affomix will supply Kalgene with its Y2HExpress technology to generate antibodies against several proprietary targets selected by Kalgene. Affomix officials did note that there would be financial milestones related to diagnostic and therapeutic applications, but did not specify any amounts or targets.
Affomix uses high throughput methodologies to select antibodies against unmodified as well as modified proteins that officials say will allow the company to achieve its ultimate objective of generating the human “Affome,” a comprehensive set of antibodies that can be used to detect and quantify all proteins in the human proteome.
Kalgene is a privately-held Canadian company focused on the development of oncology therapeutics and companion diagnostics, with products at various stages of research and development. It has a particular focus on molecular diagnostic testing for breast, bladder, epithelial and thyroid cancers.
