Ideapaint hits on $3.3M for paint-on dry-erase tech

By Galen Moore

Ideapaint Inc. has raised $3.3 million in new equity financing for its paint-on dry-erase board technology, the Cambridge-based company disclosed in a regulatory document posted Wednesday.

Angel investor Todd Krasnow, a member of the original management team at Staples Inc., participated in the round as a new investor, joining Boston-based return investors Breakaway Ventures in the round.

Founded in 2006 out of Babson College’s entrepreneur program by John Goscha, IdeaPaint has a patent-pending technology the company claims to be the lowest cost-per-square-foot way of putting up dry-erase writing surfaces.

The company’s new round of funding brings its total financing to at least $8.3 million, including a $5 million Series A round closed in 2008.

“I think the company markets a unique, useful and exciting product line that has a tremendous opportunity for growth,” Krasnow wrote in an email response to questions.

Krasnow will take a seat on the company’s board, according to the regulatory document. He also serves on the boards at Carbonite Inc. and OnForce Inc. He also serves as an advisor at Highland Capital Partners, but the Lexington-based venture firm did not participate in the round, he said.
