Mass Megawatts tests N.Y. wind power project
By Mass High Tech staff
Mass Megawatts Wind Power Inc. has begun testing its wind augmenter and wind diverter following the completion of its first commercial wind power installation in Hunter, N.Y.
The Worcester-based company reported three-fold increases in energy production, related to its 50 percent boost in wind speed for its wind augmenter. The wind diverter, meanwhile, aids a doubling of power output from the blades. In combination, the two technological advances are made to funnel wind into the blades while lowering drag stemming from wind hitting the back side of the blades.
The company’s Multiaxis Turbosystem is designed to cut down steel costs and vertical height of the system, in addition to providing silent operation.
More about Mass Megawatts
Mass Megawatts announced in September that it would provide wind turbine equipment for several wind farms in Pennsylvania in a deal with Scranton, Pa.-based Electric City Wind Power Corp.
