Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. has landed $8.4 million from the U.S. Navy for engineering on helicopters used by the U.S. Marines, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Under the deal, a modification to a previously won contract, the Stratford, Conn.-based company will perform special progressive aircraft rework induction on the Navy’s VH-3D Executive Helicopter. The VH-3D is a helicopter used by the Marines to carry VIPs, including the president of the United States.
Work on the contract will be performed in Stratford and is expected to be completed by March 2011.
Earlier this month, Sikorsky brought in $11.5 million from the U.S. Army for work on night vision-compatible lights and vibration control technology for Army helicopters.
Sikorsky is a subsidiary of Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX). United Technologies reported a net income of $1.1 billion on revenue of $13.4 billion for the quarter ended September 30.
