Kevin Delbridge will dial back his role at HarbourVest Partners, the Boston-based fund of funds that is a limited partner in private equity and venture capital firms, where he has worked since 1988.
Delbridge, 56, will step down from the senior managing director position he fills at the company and leave his LP advisory board positions, effective Jan. 1, in order to fulfill his responsibilities as chairman of the board of trustees at Western New England College, a position he took in July.
However, he said he will remain active with Harbourvest, spending between 25 percent and 75 percent of his time working with the firm. Because he is still with HarbourVest, his change in status will not trigger any key man provisions with the firm’s investors, he said.
“To me, education on a global basis is going to be the key for the U.S. to remain competitive,” Delbridge said. He said a priority for Western New England College in the coming decade will be to achieve university status. To do that, the college will have to add a second doctoral program — possibly in engineering, he said.
Based in Springfield, Western New England College recently added its first doctoral program — a doctor of pharmacy degree.
