By Mass High Tech staff
Life sciences firm Millipore Corp. has appointed MIT professor Robert Langer to its board of directors, effective following the upcoming retirement of Daniel Bellus from the board in March 2010. Langer will join Millipore’s governance and public policy committee, as well as the technology committee.
Langer, a 2004 Mass High Tech All Star award winner, has received numerous awards, including the 2006 National Medal of Science, which he won for his research of polymers in tissue regeneration and controlled medicine release. The prolific scientist has about 750 patents issued and pending, licensed to more than 220 companies.
Langer sits on the board of directors for MIT’s McGovern Institute and the Whitehead Institute.
Billerica-based Millipore (NYSE: MIL), with more than 5,900 employees worldwide, reported a profit of $145.8 million on revenue of $1.6 billion for fiscal 2008.
