QD Vision Inc. landed $10 million in its latest financing round from North Bridge Venture Partners, Highland Capital Partners and the CIA’s investment arm In-Q-Tel. The company will use the funds to bring its nanotechnology-based LED products to market.
Watertown-based QD Vision is the developer of Quantum Light, which uses quantum dots to produce high output LEDs that draw less power than traditional products, according to the company. The company is aiming their technology for use in products for solid state lighting and displays.
This latest round brings the venture investment in QD Vision, which was founded in 2004 out of MIT research, to $30 million.
The company announced its first product in June, a Quantum Light optic for a new LED lamp developed by Nexxus Lighting Inc. QD Vision officials say the lamp combines the warmth and color of incandescent bulbs with the efficiency of LED technology. The Nexxus should reach market by the first quarter of 2010.
At the same time, QD Vision reported landing a Phase 2 Small Business Innovation Research grant worth $775,000 from the U.S. Army for the development of its technology for use in micro displays.
