By Mass High Tech staff
KVH Industries Inc. has pulled in an order worth $6.4 million for its fiber-optic gyro-based TG-6000 inertial measurement units used to track rate and acceleration in the navigation of the U.S. Navy’s MK54 torpedoes. The Middletown, R.I.-based company will begin shipping orders early in 2010.
The TG-6000 features fiber-optic gyros with an all-fiber design and digital signal processing, as well as three accelerometers. The inertial measurement units are intended for applications, including manned and unmanned vehicle navigation, as well as aerial and underwater vehicle guidance systems.
KVH (Nasdaq: KVH1) noted in October that it had won $10.2 million in orders from two defense contractors for its precision fiber-optic gyros for use in remote stabilized weapon stations.
The company reported $82 million in revenue in 2008, with $3 million in net income.
