Immunogen returns positive results in Phase 1 cancer therapy trial
By Craig M. Douglas
Drug developer Immunogen Inc. said preliminary Phase 1 testing for its BT-062 cancer therapy has produced “encouraging” results that merit a new round of trials featuring a more frequent dosing regimen. The treatment is intended for patients with relapsed and relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.
The results were presented Saturday at the American Society of Hematology’s annual meeting in New Orleans.
The drug is comprised of Waltham-based Immunogen’s DM4 cancer-cell killing agent and an antibody developed by Germany’s Biotest AG. The two companies are developing the BT-062 drug target via a collaboration agreement inked earlier this year.
The 25-patient trial’s objective was to identify maximum-tolerated dosages, dose-limiting toxicities and clinical efficacy, according to a regulatory filing.
Patients in the trial received one of seven dosage levels and had been previously treated with a median of seven other cancer therapies.
Immunogen (Nasdaq: IMGN) called the toxicity results “acceptable,” adding that just over half of the 17 patients who received more than one treatment cycle experienced delayed progression in their cancer.
