By Brendan Lynch

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) has formed a partnership with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) to help increase the number of middle and high school students entering the fields of science, technology. engineering and math.

Under the agreement, the organizations will participate in one another’s events, such as the U.S. FIRST Robotics Competition. The agreement will also focus on increasing the number of female competitors in the robotics competition.

SWE, founded in 1950, is a nonprofit organization aimed at making engineering a more attractive career path for women.

FIRST was founded in 1989 by New Hampshire inventor Dean Kamen to increase interest in the STEM fields through its yearly robotics competitions and other events.
