Rocket Software buys Microsoft's Folio, NXT

By Galen Moore

Rocket Software Inc. has acquired two software business units of Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) — Folio and NXT, the Newton-based software developer announced Wednesday.

Rocket will take over new releases and product support for the two products, both enterprise publishing tools. Microsoft acquired Folio with its $1.2 billion acquisition of Norwegian Internet search-engine technology developer Fast Search and Transfer in 2008. NXT is a product the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant developed in-house.

In October, Rocket, bootstrapped since its founding in 1990, closed its first-ever outside private equity investment, worth $92 million, from New York-based private equity firm Court Square. At the time, the company said the funds are intended to continue its pattern of technology acquisitions.

Rocket
has over $150 million in revenue and 700-plus employees, a company spokesman said at the time.
