Zakrzewski to chair Amarin board of directors

As of the new year, Joseph Zakrzewski will take the executive chairman position on the board of directors for Amarin Corp. plc, a clinical stage, cardiovascular disease-focused biopharmaceutical firm with its research and development headquarters in Mystic, Conn. He will replace current chairman Thomas Lynch, who will continue to serve on the board of directors.
Zakrzewski brings 20 years of experience in the biotechnology field, including his current CEO position at Xcellerex Inc. He previously served as chief operating officer role at Reliant Pharmaceuticals Inc. and as vice president of corporate business development at Eli Lilly & Company. Zakrzewski also chairs the boards of Promedior Inc. and Zelos Therapeutics, in addition to sitting on the board of directors for Insulet Corp.
Zakrzewski graduated with an MBA in finance from Indiana University, a master’s degree in biochemical engineering from Drexel University and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering also from Drexel University.
Dublin-based Amarin (Nasdaq: AMRN) opened its research and development office in Connecticut in 2008. The company’s cardiovascular disease developments center around lipid science and the positive impact of fatty acids with cardiovascular disease. Amarin also conducts research into myasthenia gravis, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy.
