Court favors Medica in copyright suit against Diamond Diagnostics
By Mass High Tech staff
Medica Corp. has won a copyright lawsuit brought against Holliston-based Diamond Diagnostics Inc.
The U.S. District Court in Boston has ruled that Diamond Diagnostics must pay for damages and must agree to a permanent injunction. Medica filed suit against the company alleging pirated copies of Medica’s EasyLyte software were incorporated in Diamond’s Prolyte Electrolyte Analyzer.
The Court’s injunction prohibits Diamond from selling its Prolyte Electrolyte Analyzer product with Medica’s software and also prohibited the use of text, drawings and illustrations, originated by Medica, for use in the Prolyte operator’s manual.
Founded in 1984, Bedford-based Medica develops and commercializes in vitro diagnostic medical devices.
Diamond Diagnostics is a manufacturing and refurbishing company focused on electrolyte, blood gas, chemistry, immunology, hematology and coagulation instrumentation.
