SimpleTuition buys TuitionCoach

By Galen Moore

SimpleTuition Inc. has acquired TuitionCoach , a San Mateo, Calif.-based competitor that publishes a website providing information on how to finance higher education.

Newton-based SimpleTuition publishes a website designed to help students and their families research and compare student loan options. TuitionCoach’s site encompasses a broader focus, including online tools designed to help families prepare to pay for college.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Backed by Atlas Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners and North Hill Ventures, SimpleTuition closed a $6 million third round of financing in January, bringing the company’s total venture investment to at least $17.9 million, according to published reports.

SimpleTuition was founded in 2005 by former First Marblehead executives Patrick Kandianis and Kevin Walker. Walker is currently CEO of the company.
