Navy awards $131M in contracts to Raytheon

By Brendan Lynch

Raytheon Co. has landed $131 million in two deals from the U.S. Navy for engineering on destroyers, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The Waltham-based defense contractor’s Integrated Defense Systems unit brought in $84.4 million after the Navy exercised an option on a previously awarded contract. Under the deal, Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) will test mission systems equipment, produce test documentation, conduct component and design level verification tests and maintain related design and test class documentation for the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class destroyer program. Work on the contract is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

In a separate deal, Raytheon IDS landed $46.6 million when the Navy exercised another option on a previously won contract for engineering services on Zumwalt Destroyers. Under the contract, Raytheon IDS will support design assurance, develop verification plans and conduct verifications for the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class destroyer program. Work on the contract is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.

Work on both contracts will be performed in Tewksbury, Marlborough, Sudbury and Portsmouth, R.I., as well as in New Jersey, Minnesota, California and Maryland.

Last week, Raytheon brought in $5.8 million from the Navy to upgrade missile-launching systems for the Canadian military. Under the deal, a Foreign Military Sales contract, Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) will upgrade hardware and software components on Canadian Mk-48 guided missile vertical launching systems.

Raytheon reported a net income of $490 million on revenue of $6.2 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 27.
