Ex-CuraGen CEO Tim Shannon joins Canaan Partners

By Galen Moore

A second former CuraGen Corp. executive has gone to the venture capital side. Canaan Partners announced this morning that former CuraGen CEO Tim Shannon, M.D., has joined the firm’s Westport, Conn. office as a venture partner.

Connecticut Innovations announced on Monday that former CuraGen CFO David Wurzer had joined the quasi-public venture capital nonprofit as a managing director.

According to Canaan’s press release, Shannon will support the firm’s current healthcare portfolio companies and identify new investment opportunities.

CuraGen, a Branford, Conn.-based company using genomics to develop drugs, was acquired by Celldex Therapeutics Inc. last quarter for $94.5 million in stock. In 2007,
Swiss drug maker Roche bought CuraGen business unit 454 Life Sciences Corp. for $154.9 million.
