Wurzer takes Connecticut Innovations managing director role
By Galen Moore
Connecticut Innovations has appointed a fourth managing director to its deal team, the venture investing arm of the Connecticut state government announced today.
David Wurzer, formerly CFO of Branford, Conn.-based CuraGen Corp. (Nasdaq: CRGN), will source and analyze investment opportunities, lead investments and advise portfolio companies, according to the press release.
Wurzer shepherded CuraGen, a genomics-based drug company, through its 1997 initial public offering of stock, as well as several follow-on public placements. According to Connecticut Innovations’ press release, Wurzer helped the company raise over $700 million during his tenure. CuraGen sold in October to Celldex for $93.5 million.
A quasi-public non-profit, Connecticut Innovations makes equity investments with technology startups located in the Nutmeg State. Recent investments include Optiwind Corp., a developer of wind turbines; Soft Tissue Regeneration Inc. (STR), a developer of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) treatment; and Continuity Engine Inc., a developer of on-demand regulatory compliance applications.
