Pratt & Whitney pulls in $18M for Joint Strike Fighter parts
By Brendan Lynch
Pratt & Whitney has landed $18 million from the U.S. Navy for engineering and parts on fighter aircraft, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Under the deal, a modification to a previously awarded contract, Pratt & Whitney will provide special tooling and special test equipment for Navy and Air Force Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. Work on the contract will be performed in East Hartford, Conn., Indianapolis, Ind., and in Bristol, U.K., and is expected to be completed by February 2012.
Earlier this month, Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), received $112 million to provide jet engines to DAE Capital, the financial business and aircraft leasing unit of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise. Pratt & Whitney reported a similar jet engine deal for $233 million from Qatar Airways this past June. The contract calls for 24 IAE V2500 engines.
United Technologies reported a net income of $1.1 billion on revenue of $13.4 billion for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2009.
