Software
Cambridge-based Neocleus Ltd. has named Chad Jones as vice president, product management. Jones joins Neocleus most recently from Certeon Inc., a network virtualization technology provider, where he was vice president, business development. Prior to Certeon, Jones worked for Microsoft Corp. as a senior product manager responsible for application virtualization strategic planning, marketing and evangelism. He joined Microsoft through its $240 million acquisition of Boston’s Softricity Inc. At Softricity, Jones was one of the creators of Softricity’s SoftGrid and the company’s senior director of product strategy.

John Montgomery has joined uTest, a Boston-based software testing marketplace, as vice president of project delivery. Prior to uTest, Montgomery was director of engineering operations and program management at Openwave Systems, where he oversaw all operational facets of the R&D organization. Before Openwave, he held senior positions in quality assurance, engineering and operations at Polycom, SPL WorldGroup and Oracle. At Oracle, Montgomery led a global quality and development team responsible for engineering productivity tools and test automation. He also developed and implemented test engineering methodologies for Vantive, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards.

Defense
Raytheon Co. of Waltham has hired Chris Foster as business development executive for its Information Security Solutions business, headquartered in Maryland. Foster joins Raytheon from Northrop Grumman Corp., where he was responsible for business development and strategic partnerships for the government systems division. Before that, as the State of Maryland’s deputy secretary of business and economic development, Foster served as the state’s “tech czar.” He has an applied scientist degree in electrical engineering, a master’s in applied physics and a master’s in electrical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.

Internet
Local Thunder, a Portland, Maine-based provider of networked local online advertising solutions, has named David Vazdauskas as president of the company. Vazdauskas’ background includes senior executive positions with two Boston-area Internet companies and one of the nation’s largest consumer banks. Additionally, he was a partner at Lippincott & Margulies, the New York-based brand strategy consultancy, and also a partner at the international management-consulting firm Mercer Management Consulting. He began his career at New York advertising agencies Foote, Cone & Belding and Saatchi & Saatchi.

Hardware
Laser Light Engines, a Salem, N.H.-based developer and manufacturer of ultra-high brightness, laser-driven light sources, has hired Doug Darrow, former general manager of Texas Instruments’ DLP Cinema Division, to serve as chief executive officer. Darrow succeeds Bill Beck, Laser Light Engines’ co-founder, who will remain active in the company as executive vice president, business development. Prior to joining Laser Light Engines, Darrow spent 23 years with Texas Instruments.

Andover-based BirdDog Solutions Inc. has named Richard Piontek [PHOTO]president of wholly owned subsidiary BirdDog Logistics LLC. Piontek brings to BirdDog more than 25 years of experience in the logistics and supply chain services industry, with a background in North American and international logistics operations, sales, strategy, and general management for companies such as TNT Logistics, Schneider National, DHL Worldwide Express, and Danzas Corporation. Most recently, he held executive and general management roles at Livingston International Inc., a Canadian public company and leading North American customs brokerage, regulatory consulting, and logistics services firm.

Waltham-based IMN, an Internet communications company, has added Eric Shealy as vice president of corporate and business development. Prior to joining IMN, Shealy was managing director for Boston–based Innovation Advisors, a technology-focused investment banking firm. Before Innovation Advisors, Shealy was managing director for Covington Associates, another Boston-based specialty investment firm. For more than six years, Shealy managed the firm’s technology practice and completed 15 M&A transactions within the software, hardware and service sectors.

Life Sciences
Alnara Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Cambridge pharmaceutical company developing orally delivered protein therapeutics for the treatment of metabolic diseases, has named Lee R. Brettman [PHOTO]to the newly created position of chief medical officer. Most recently, Brettman was the founder, president and CEO of Dynogen Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on gastrointestinal and genitourinary disorders. Prior to Dynogen, he was the first entrepreneur in residence at Oxford Bioscience Partners and served as chief medical officer and senior vice president, medical and regulatory affairs at Millenium Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Aileron Therapeutics Inc. has named Steven Kafka as its chief financial officer and vice president of finance and operations. Kafka reports to Aileron CEO Joseph Yanchik III and will be responsible for directing the company’s corporate communications, strategic and operational finances, and human resources. Kafka joins Aileron having previously worked for Infinity Pharmaceuticals Inc. as vice president, finance. While there, he helped Infinity land a deal, worth up to $500 million, with Purdue Pharma and Mundipharma. Other prior positions that Kafka held include senior director, finance, at Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc., and senior engagement manager at Strategic Decisions Group.

Alternative Energy
Northern Power Systems Inc. has named Taylor Robinson as vice president of global supply chain. Robinson was formerly executive vice president of supply chain at Watts Water Technologies, a global manufacturer of water quality, conservation and safety products. He also served as a senior consultant to LM Glasfiber, a manufacturer of wind turbine blade. Robinson served previously as chief procurement officer at HJ Heinz; global supply chain director at AlliedSignal/Honeywell International; and was a key leader in the strategic sourcing organization at Honda of America for 10 years.
