2009 Tech Citizenship honoree: EMD Serono Inc.

While EMD Serono Inc. in Rockland certainly gives out plenty of cash donations as part of its charitable efforts, the company would rather talk about what its employees do in company-backed volunteerism. June was community service month at the company, with employees devoting a day of company-paid time to participate in one of five community outreach initiatives scheduled. Some EMD Serono staff members landscaped at the Magical Moon Foundation in Marshfield, while others cooked meals at the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston, an organization that provides a supportive atmosphere for cancer patients and their families.

Officials say all of that is just part of EMD Serono’s desire to give back to local communities, which it has also done with support for South Shore Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell and the local public schools in Rockland.

“Making a difference in society is part of the culture and purpose of EMD Serono, and we remain committed to making our community a better place to live and work through supporting important initiatives and organizations in need especially during these trying economic times,” said Renee Connolly, vice president, U.S. communications for EMD Serono.
