2009 Tech Citizenship honoree: Evergreen USA LLC

Evergreen USA LLC, a small Nashua, N.H., cleantech company, was founded with a vision to provide clean energy and smart grid products and services that help make the world a better place, officials say. And while it isn’t producing massive flywheel-based storage systems or superconducting transmission cables, the company is making its cleantech mark supplying the nuts and bolts of the smart grid: batteries, interconnects, switches and the like.

Like most companies honored, Evergreen USA gives back through a combination of charitable donations and volunteer hours. But as one of the smaller companies honored this year, it keeps its giving efforts tightly focused. The company’s primary efforts have gone to a fundraising race for the Anne Marie House, an operation of the Greater Nashua Interfaith Hospitality Networks.

“Giving back to the community through financial and volunteer support to several local charities is completely aligned with the vision of creating a better world,” said Robert Otto, president and CEO of Evergreen USA.
“Companies don’t exist in a vacuum. In a tough economy it can be easier to rationalize not giving back, but, especially in times like these, it is what we do as individuals and companies that define who we are as people, companies, and ultimately as a nation.”
