Pratt & Whitney lands $112M jet engine deal

Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies Corp., is lined up to receive $112 million, relating to a jet engine contract with DAE Capital, the financial business and aircraft leasing unit of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise.
Under the deal, Pratt & Whitney would deliver the International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 SelectOne, for use with 20 Airbus A320-family aircraft, beginning in 2011. IAE, an association for global aerospace engine firms, includes Pratt & Whitney, MTU Aero Engines, Rolls-Royce and the Japanese Aero Engines Corp.
The V2500 engine, which airlines began using last October, is intended to perform with an additional 1 percent fuel burn advantage and a corresponding reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. It powers the Airbus A319, A320 and A321, in addition to the A319 Corporate Jet.
Pratt & Whitney reported a similar jet engine deal for $233 million from Qatar Airways this past June. The contract calls for 24 IAE V2500 engines.
