Microfluidics dealt $1M credit line

By Julie M. Donnelly

Microfluidics International Corp., a Newton-based manufacturer of fluid processors, has received a $1 million life line from Webster Bank.

Microfluidics said the working capital will support the development of new products and quality improvements to its existing line as well as general corporate operations.

As the demand for both seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccine skyrockets, the Newton-based company aims to cash in as one of the few companies experienced in mixing vaccines with so-called adjuvants, or substances that enhance the effectiveness of vaccines.

Company officials said its line of high-pressure fluid processors create a more uniform product by breaking down particles into tinier bits.

Microfluidics had only $402,000 in cash on hand as of June 30, down from $1.9 million on Dec. 31.
