By Mass High Tech staff

RXi Pharmaceuticals Corp., an RNAi-focused biopharmaceutical firm in Worcester, has appointed Noah Beerman as president and CEO. Co-founder, former president and CEO Tod Woolf will continue in his scientific advisory board member role.

The company said in a press release that the change in leadership was planned as part of a strategy to move RXi’s research into product development and therapeutic collaboration.

Beerman joins RXi having served most recently as executive vice president, chief business officer for Indevus Pharmaceuticals Inc., now owned by Endo Pharmaceuticals. Prior to his role at Indevus, Beerman was vice president of venture firm Technology Management and Funding, where he oversaw the biotechnology portfolio companies. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Creative BioMolecules, Sandoz AG and Repligen.

Beerman earned an MBA from Northeastern University’s High Technology Program and a bachelor’s degree in molecular genetics from the University of Rochester.

RXi (Nasdaq: RXII) develops proprietary therapeutics based on RNA interference (RNAi). Among the company’s founders in 2006 is University of Massachusetts researcher Craig Mello, who was a winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize for his co-discovery of RNAi.
