Werner Schaefer joins Neuroptix board

By Mass High Tech staff

Alzheimer’s disease detection company Neuroptix Corp. has added Werner Schaefer, a current biotech and diagnostics industry consultant, to its board of directors.

Schaefer joins the board having amassed a number of previous board positions and management positions. He served on the board and “headed” U.S. operations for diagnostics firm BRAHMS AG, acquired by Thermo Fisher in September for $470 million. He has also worked as director of area operations and scientific development for Abbott GmbH Diagnostics, president and chief operating officer of Behring Diagnostics USA and president of Boehringer Mannheim’s Lab Systems Management Board.

Acton-based Neuroptix develops technology to identify the presence of Alzheimer’s disease in its early stages through a non-invasive eye test, the Neuroptix Sapphire diagnostic platform. The system consists of a non-contact laser-based optical device combined with an eye drop which identifies Alzheimer’s-related proteins found in the lens of the eye.
