Boston Scientific stent gets European approval

By Chris Newmarker

Boston Scientific Corp. on Monday said European regulators have approved its Promus Element stent — the latest version of the company’s drug-coated stent technology meant to prop open previously clogged arteries.

The new Promus Element stents replace the current stents, which were made under an agreement that Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) has with Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: ABT). That agreement is set to expire soon.

Natick-based Boston Scientific will begin marketing the Promus Element system immediately in the European Union. The company says the Promus Element includes innovations including a proprietary platinum chromium alloy that has greater strength and flexibility than older alloys.
