American Well pulls in $10M for online doctor visits
By Mass High Tech staff
Online physican-consumer connection firm American Well Corp. has brought in $10 million from a securities offering filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday.
The regulatory filing indicates that the offering includes warrants and promissory notes to buy stock, and that there was a single, unnamed purchaser.
American Well has developed a web-based system, Online Care, that aims to ease patient-doctor connection by providing immediate Internet and telephony connection between consumers and physicians associated with the Online Care system.
The Boston-based health-care technology firm was founded in 2006 by brothers and physicians Ido and Roy Schoenberg, who are both listed on American Well’s website as co-CEOs. The two Schoenberg’s have teamed together in past ventures, including the founding and eventual 2005 $60 million sale of Boston health-care management software firm CareKey Inc. They also co-founded Needham-based clinical management software maker iMDsoft.
