Report: Spire Solar’s $42M manufacturing plant to add 150 jobs in NH
By Mass High Tech staff
Spire Solar Inc. has received the green light from selectmen in Hudson, N.H., to build a $42 million solar cell manufacturing plant in the town that is expected to add 150 jobs, according to a report in the Lowell Sun.
The report indicates that Spire representatives got approval from Hudson selectmen for an allotment of 100,000 gallons of wastewater per day in order to operate the production facility.
The $42 million investment to transform the plant will reportedly come from Uni-Chem Co. Ltd. of Seoul, South Korea; Spire signed a deal last month with Uni-Chem to accommodate integrated cell and module lines in the U.S.
Spire Solar officials were not available for comment at the time of writing.
Spire has shifted its focus in the last year to concentrate on the U.S. solar panel market. In June, Spire indicated to Mass High Tech that its efforts, after dissolving its two-year-old joint venture with Taiwanese PV module maker Gloria Solar Co. Ltd., would shift to its new, wholly owned business, Spire Solar Systems.
