NXT Nutritionals names Gavin to medical advisory board

James R. Gavin III, former president of the American Diabetes Association, has joined the medical advisory board of NXT Nutritionals Holdings Inc., a Holyoke-based maker of natural sweeteners and food and beverage products.
NXT Nutritionals develops SUSTA natural sweetener, which Gavin said in a press release he would help promote as an option for people with diabetes. He currently holds at least three positions — CEO and chief medical officer of Healing Our Village Inc., clinical professor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and clinical professor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. An author and co-author of more than 200 articles, he graduated from Livingstone College and earned a doctorate in biochemistry from Emory University and a medical degree from Duke University.
Gavin is associated with several organizations including the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Diabetes ASsociation, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American Society of Clinical Investigation.
