Data Logix quietly lands $15M in first funding

By Rodney H. Brown

Stealthy Cambridge startup Data Logix Inc. has taken in $15 million of a planned $18 million first financing round, according to federal documents. While little is known about the company, it seems to be based on technology related to focusing marketing messages to appropriate consumers or households, according to patent applications the startup has filed.

The CEO of the company is Robert Gierkink, a partner at General Catalyst and former co-founder and CEO of Loyalty Management Group. Listed as a director is General Catalyst partner George Bell who, prior to joining General Catalyst, was CEO of Upromise Inc., the country’s largest college savings service, which was sold in 2006 to Sallie Mae. General Catalyst had no comment about the filing, according to Michelle Daubar, General Catalyst's director of communications.

The patent application filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office lists Gierkink, along with Timothy J. Wright, James B. Ray, III and Douglas E. Gaeth. Wright is a general partner at GrandBanks Capital in Newton and previously served as the CTO of Geac Computer Corp. Ltd. of Southborough. Prior to Geac, Wright served as CTO and CIO of Terra Lycos.

Ray is a member of the technology consulting firm McCready Manigold Ray & Co. Inc., based in Upton. Gaeth is a consultant at Bowman and Partners and previously worked at Epsilon Data Management.
