Newton-based Recombinant Data Corp. has joined with Sun Microsystems Inc. in a deal to provide a health data warehouse to Health Sciences South Carolina, a state-wide consortium of university and hospital medical centers. The deal is worth $4 million to Recombinant; the Sun portion of the deal was not disclosed.
The project will combine Recombinant Data’s data warehousing capabilities with Sun Microsystems’ open-source applications, including Java CAPS 6, that can add value to the medical centers’ data, for example, by cross-referencing patients from different facilities.
Recombinant officials said the resulting capabilities will help providers collaborate on care and quality improvement initiatives and attract new investigators and investment by bio-pharmaceutical companies focused on improving patient care.
The use of open source technology will enable HSSC to work in partnership with multiple Clinical and Translational Awards (CTSA) sites and share new technologies developed through NIH grants and system improvement projects with peer organizations.
