Navy awards $62M in work to GD Electric Boat

By Brendan Lynch

General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp. has brought in almost $62 million in two contracts from the U.S. Navy, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Under one deal, Electric Boat will bring in $43.7 million in a modification to a previously awarded contract for maintenance and repair support at the Naval Submarine Support Facility at the Naval Submarine Base in New London, Conn. Electric Boat will provide non-nuclear services on nuclear submarines, floating dry-docks, support & service craft and other platforms and equipment. Work on the contract is expected to be completed by September 2010.

The Groton, Conn.-based General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) subsidiary also landed an $18.2 million modification to a previously won contract for reactor plant planning yard services for nuclear-powered submarines and support yard services for the Navy’s moored training ships. Electric Boat will develop or acquire supplies and services necessary for the planning yard for submarine reactor plants and propulsion plants to function. Work on the contract will be performed in Groton and Charleston, S.C., and is expected to be completed by September 2010.

Last week, Electric Boat brought in $320 million in contract modifications from the Navy for work on nuclear submarines. Under the contract, the company will provide design, engineering, material and logistics support, and research and development services for active U.S. submarines and other submersibles.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Va., employs about 92,000 people.
